How to deal with the Holidays:

Prepare ahead of time, if hot button issues frequently arise, create ways to diffuse situations and think ahead of potential reactions to help maintain a relaxing, thankful environment.

The day will run more smoothly if you prepare ahead of time. Make sure that there is plenty of food and plenty of activities throughout the home.

Let the kids be a great distraction!

Don't rely on conversation and television, provide games and a football and see what happens!

Set clear boundaries, let people know what you expect.

On that note, expect little. People can't change just to fit your mold, laugh off personality issues and only make an issue if something needs to be addressed.

If there is a person who is somewhat of an outsider, give them a special role like giving the blessing or toast to help them to feel included.

Kelly’s Yummy Spinach Dip
8 oz Sour Cream
8 oz frozen spinach
8 oz cream cheese
3 cloves of garlic, diced
1 package of ranch dip
Parmesan cheese


Thaw and rinse spinach dip, mix with cream cheese, sour cream, garlic and ranch dip. Bake at 375 for 20 minutes, and top with Parmesan cheese. This dip is delightful in a Hawaiian Bread Bowl.

Per Erin the Expert on all things children!

Erin's Easy Play-Dough Recipe
1c salt
1-2 squirts of baby oil
1/8 tsp creme of tartar
3c flour
1c water

Stove top directions


1. Mix the dry ingredients together (flour, salt, and cream of tartar) in an electric skillet or pan on the stove.
2. Turn the electric skillet or burner on low heat.
3. Make a hole in the middle of the dry ingredients.
4. In a small bowl, add 2-3 drops of food coloring and a few squirts of baby oil to the water and stir.
5. Pour the colored water in the hole in the middle of the dry ingredients.
6. Stir the mixture and cook on low heat.
7. When mixture reaches the desired consistency, remove the dough from the electric skillet and knead it with your hands.

Microwave Directions


Cook in microwave 15-20 seconds, then stir. do this 3 or 4 times. (on skillet on stove just heat and stir til it gets to a doughy consistancy)

Notes:
If the dough is too dry, add a little more baby oil. If the dough is too wet, add a little more flour.
If you choose to make the playdough in a glass bowl in the microwave, cook the mixture for about 1 1/2 minutes at a time, kneading in between cooking cycles. Heat the playdough for 3 separate 1 1/2 minute cycles for a total of 4 1/2 minutes of cooking time.
If you don't have any cream of tartar, the consistency of the dough won't be affected. The cream of tartar serves as a preservative, however, so it's a good idea to add it if you have some.
Store the playdough in the refrigerator when not in use. This will help to kill some of the germs that may have accumulated from little hands.

Vote 4 my better tomorrow

Patriot & I had a great experience at the polls. People were friendly and seemed to be fine voting next to a mom & tot combo:)

Patriot was VERY proud of his 'I voted' sticker:) He wore his and held mine for most of the day!

Colin did a great job as Mommy's "voting helper" today! Our polling experience was peaceful and easy, although it doesn't hurt that most of the political volunteers outside were of our same political sidedness.




UPDATE

Dunkin Donuts has joined the giveaway trend! Apparently, voters can get a free donut. Additionally, our local Chick-Fil-A is giving away sandwiches (We'll see how this coincides with kids eat free night) and Kelly's Chick-Fil-A is handing out coupons for a free drink. Oh, and a Starbucks bonus: They are also giving away TEA as well as coffee! So go out and get your free voting goods!

Voting Perks!

Starbucks Corp. is offering a free cup of coffee to anyone who reports voting on Tuesday, while Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. is giving away star-shaped doughnuts. Ice cream maker Ben and Jerry's is offering a free scoop to anyone, as part of a celebration of the election.

Books A Million is also giving away a cup of coffee to anyone who votes.
